US History

The United States of America – some historical perspective

No attempt is made here to provide a balanced overview – just a few notes on America’s founding and founding documents, with an emphasis on civil rights

Founding

The United States of America was founded as a Christian nation, as much as any nation could be – the Bible does say in the end times God will destroy every nation and all governments, but the founding fathers of the United States were Christians.

Patrick Henry said: “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.” And although this quote, and many like it, are hotly challenged, mainly by atheists, it should be noted that that the foundational charters of the first 13 states either required or suggested that anyone involved in the politics thereof, be a Christian.
